BARRA AGROPECUÁRIA

History
The history of Barra Agropecuária began in 1977, when Cid Barros decided to start raising both standard and polled Nellore cattle. The basis for the standard Nellore cattle was acquired from Mr. Jairo da Cunha Bastos’s herd. On their turn, the first polled animals were selected in major exhibitions of this industry.
The Nellore race accounts for more than 80% of the Brazilian herd today. This is due to their exceptional adaptability to the environmental conditions of the country, without prejudice to their productive characteristics. Within this context, the polled Nellore cattle stands out for their extreme rusticity, precocity and fertility. Barra Agropecuária has had such insight since the beginning. Right at the first exhibitions it took part, the polled animals had a much higher performance on track. Therefore, Cid decided to dedicate himself exclusively to raise them.
With a strict selection process, aiming characteristics of great economic impact, Barra was one of the early participants of the Program for Genetic Enhancement of Zebu Cattle – PMGZ. It has been raising, breeding and fattening commercial cattle today, in addition to raising PO bulls for purposes of enhancement of its own herd and to sell them in auctions. It invests in sustainability and in the animal well-being in its properties in Barra do Garça, State of Mato Grosso (Fazenda Roncador) and in São Carlos, State of São Paulo.
Barra’s mission is to make the Brazilian farming industry–as a whole–to evolve more and more every day. That’s Brazil, that’s Agribusiness, that’s Barra Agropecuária!
